Hunter Moon:
The full moon closest to the autumnal equinox is always the Harvest Moon, the moon that follows is referred to as the Hunter’s Moon, and it makes its first appearance in either October or November.
Use the clear light of this moon to illuminate your “targets” and what you are working toward
Because it is so close to Samhain it is a good time to connect to our ancestors and those who have passed on.
Samhain
Samhain (Sow-win) is Gaelic for “Summers End” and is the most sacred of Sabbats. It occurs at the halfway point between the Autumnal Equinox and the Winter Solstice. It marks the beginning of the Wheel of the Year. This time of the year is when the veil between the world of the seen and unseen is the thinnest. This is a wonderful time to set new intentions and goals for yourself. It is also a time to celebrate loved ones who have passed on. Many traditional Halloween activities have roots in ancient celebrations like jack-o-lanterns, dressing up, creating altars to honor those who have transitioned. The energy of this season turns to rest, Yin, connection with the darkness, and the shadows. It is intuitive and receptive and meant to be a time of nurturing and self-care.
Rituals:
Carve a pumpkin, originally used to guide spirits back during this time. Those with scary faces are meant to keep unwanted energies or spirits away.
Clean and tidy your home burning sage, yarrow, mugwort, or yarrow. Put up Fall decorations to welcome in the change
Walk in nature and connect to the changing energy
Clean and tidy your altar and then decorate it with seasonal items from nature (leaves, pinecones, squash, pumpkins, etc.)
Have a Fire Ceremony to burn away any energies that no longer serve you.
Connect with your ancestors or those who have passed.
Practice Shadow Work.
Host a feast. And invite people to make a family recipe to share.
